The coastline that stretches from the picturesque village and bay of Famara to the working fishing village of La Santa has over the years earned it's reputation and established itself as one of Europes top surfing destinations.

The picturesque fishing village and bay of Famara sat in the shadow of the "Los Riscos" cliff range have been a favourite base for surfers from all over the world for many years. Playa Famara beach is an ideal playground for beginner and intermediate surfers and the reef breaks dotted around the village (El Muelle & San Juan) provide more challenging conditions for experienced surfers. The nearby village of La Santa still has a small working fishing harbour at its heart and despite being world renowned as a surfing destination has maintained some of its original charm. With world class breaks such as El Quemao, La Izquierda (The Slab) & La Derecha (Morro Negro) on your doorstep, there is challenging surf for all intermediate and experienced surfers. Thanks in part to it geogrpahic position and large swell window, Lanzarote receives surf all year round. The surf is typically bigger and more consistent during the winter months (Oct to April) and smaller with a bit of wind during the summer months.

Both villages offer a good selection of tapas bars and restaurants with something to suit all tastes and budgets including local tapas, freshly caught fish, pizzerias etc. There are also a couple of decent size supermarkets and surf shops for those essential supplies. Both villages are a far cry away from mass toursim and will appeal to those who wish to kick back and enjoy the Canarian pace of life.
